A Visit to North Carolina

Just recently I was fortunate enough to go on deployment to NC. I live in PA currently, so the lifestyle is a little bit different, not to say anything negative about either location. In traveling the eastern half of NC, I was able to see parts of the piedmont, and parts of the coast. Unfortunately I missed out on the mountains this time around. Every bit of it was beautiful right down to the landscaped highway medians which were decorated with large red flowers. You will have to forgive me on the variety as I can't tell the difference between a weed and a flower in my own yard. The people in the area were exceptionally nice. Everywhere you go, you still hear “sir” and “ma'am” from fast foods, to businesses, to holding the door for someone. Even scheduling an appointment on a payroll day was a breeze. With that said I wanted to discuss a quick couple experiences that I have never had to deal with in my section of PA. The first one happened while driving down a road. I saw oncoming traffic stopped in the middle of the road, but I was unsure why. As I approached a large pig darted in front of my car. (that’s one) The next experience happened while listening to the radio. The emergency broadcast came on the radio stating several tornadoes had been spotted in Eastern North Carolina citing a few counties where they were located. The problem was it did not matter which county they were touching down in since I had to drive through all of them! I was on the north eastern side driving all the way down to the south central side. A long story short, the clouds were dark, but I am fine.

Josh-I lived in North Carolina several years ago and tornado warnings are as common as a rainy day!
