Expect the Unexpected
Monday, January 19 2009 - auditor-stories
After working in county government for over fifteen (15) years, I purposed within myself that I was not going to "settle" for just any job.
I like to believe that with age, comes wisdom and it was important to me to be happy in my job.
I had been working for RLD Associates for over a year and everyday solidifies my decision to accept the position of Field Auditor.
I've learned that with this job to "Expect the Unexpected"
In most cases, this term applies to the insured and not on arriving at the insured's location but for me, this was not the case on October 30th.
I had to finish a location visit here in Keyser, WV and then drive to Oakland, Maryland for my next audit. (So far - so good!)
but upon going to my next audit in Grantsville, Maryland .... the unexpected occurred.
I was driving when all of a sudden I seen A BEAR charging at my car (correction: my husband's new car!). I had no time to respond.
I could not hit the brakes, nothing. He slammed into the right side of my car and I heard "the noise" but as if it was an everyday occurence to him, he just turned around and ran back into the woods. I was not about to get out of my car to assess the damage so I drove further up the road and pulled over. I called my husband (umm, a little hysterical) and explained what had just happened to his car. In all honesty, for hitting a bear there was minimal damage to the vehicle. I continued on my way to my next two audits and found that "bear sightings in Garrett County, Maryland" is not rare.
